MARUNOUCHI PARK BUILDING / MITSUBISHI ICHIGOKAN (reconstruction)

丸の内パークビルディング/三菱一号館 - Marunouchi Pāku Birudingu / Mitsubishi Ichi-gōkan

"Designed by English architect Josiah Conder and built under the supervision of Tatsuzo Sone, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan was completed in 1894 to become the first office building in the Marunouchi district, thus further boosting Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei's reputation. The reconstruction project entailed recreating the three-storey, one-basement brick building, which had been demolished in 1968, in the Queen Anne style of the Victorian era. A seismic isolation layer was constructed in the basement, and original features including brickwork and wood-framed dormer windows were reconstructed. Using materials including brick, stone and metal, and working from original plans, photographs and archival materials to keep the restoration as faithful as possible, the building was transformed for use as an art museum."
